Where to order
Where to order Starlink so the $100 counts
One way of getting a kit can carry the $100: starlink.com, through the link, in your own name. Here’s every other way, why it can’t, and how to compare if a store has a sale.
In brief
On starlink.com, through a referral link, in a web browser, as the account holder. A kit from a store, a dealer, a used sale or a hand-down can’t earn the $100, a phone order can’t either, and whether a rented kit counts isn’t confirmed. And an order placed without the link can’t have a referral attached afterwards[1].
| Where the kit came from | The $100? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| New on starlink.com, through a referral link, on your own account | Can qualify | The one route the terms describe: The Referred Subscriber must purchase a Starlink Kit and subscription directly from www.starlink.com. |
| Rented on starlink.com, through a referral link | Not confirmed | It’s unconfirmed whether renting the kit still earns the reward: the terms require that the new customer “must purchase a Starlink Kit and subscription directly from www.starlink.com”, and Starlink has never said if a rental qualifies. The order page’s panel shows the link is attached, not that a rental qualifies. |
| New from a store or a reseller | No $100 | Amounts are only issued for sign-ups on starlink.com. Kits from resellers, retailers, or account transfers are not eligible. |
| Bought used: a marketplace, an auction or a local sale | No $100 | A private transfer of a kit someone else bought: Signing up through any other channel is not eligible for a Reward, including, but not limited to, retail stores, unauthorized resellers, or a private transfer from a third party. |
| Handed down by family or a friend | No $100 | Still a transfer, even if it was barely used. A kit bought online can’t move at all for a while: For an online kit purchase, a transfer isn't allowed until 120 days after the purchase or 90 days after the kit activates, whichever comes first. |
| Ordered on someone else’s account, then given to you | No $100 | It was their order on their account, so it reaches you as a transfer (our reading). |
| Ordered by phone | No $100 | The terms name starlink.com, and the referral rides in the link: No other referral mechanism shall qualify as an Eligible Referral. |
| Someone’s rented kit | Not theirs to give | You cannot transfer a rental service line to another person or location. |
“Can qualify” still needs the other conditions: never had Starlink, a US service address, and two full billing cycles on a high-speed plan (who qualifies).
Ordering from Starlink: browser, app, phone or rental
Even on Starlink’s side, only one way is the one the terms name: the new customer must purchase a Starlink Kit and subscription directly from www.starlink.com
.
| How you order | The $100? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| On starlink.com in a web browser, through the referral link | Can qualify | The route the terms describe. The other conditions still decide: who qualifies. |
| On starlink.com without the link | No | An order placed without the link can’t have a referral attached afterwards[1]. |
| In the Starlink app | Not confirmed | Starlink says to use the link on starlink.com, and nobody has confirmed whether a referral opened in a browser survives when the order is completed in the Starlink app unverified[1]. Order in a browser. |
| By phone with Starlink, or its AI agent | No: the terms name starlink.com | Signing up through any other channel is not eligible for a Reward. Reported In an r/Starlink post of Sep 9, 2026 (under the earlier free-month terms; since deleted by its author, read in an archived copy on Nov 2, 2026), Starlink’s AI phone agent finished an order begun through a referral link and said the referral would still apply; the second month was billed in full, and support replied that the link has to be used at sign-up on starlink.com. |
| Renting the kit on starlink.com, through the link | Not confirmed | It’s unconfirmed whether renting the kit still earns the reward: the terms require that the new customer “must purchase a Starlink Kit and subscription directly from www.starlink.com”, and Starlink has never said if a rental qualifies unverified[2]. If your order page offers only a rental, wait for Starlink’s answer before you count on the $100. |
A dealer or installer who sells you the kit is a reseller in Starlink’s terms (our reading), and buying through a reseller means billing and support run through the reseller, not Starlink[14]. Paying an installer to mount a kit you bought on starlink.com is different, and doesn’t change where you bought it (our reading).
The store “$100s” aren’t the referral
When a store advertises money off a Starlink kit, that’s the store’s price, not Starlink’s referral reward, and a store kit can’t earn the reward on top: only sign-ups made at starlink.com earn a reward; a kit from a retailer, a reseller or an account transfer is excluded[1]. Starlink’s own Mini price is a kit price too: on Oct 30, 2026, the order page showed the Mini as “$149 (typically $249)” with a 12-month installment option[6], and its US list price is $149[5] now. Store prices change daily, so compare totals on the day, not labels. Every “$100” people mix up, sorted: which $100 is which.
Bought at a store already?
Store-bought kits go back to the store[8], under the store’s own return policy. Keep it and you can still activate it, just without the $100: a store-bought kit activated as a new account is charged the first month immediately[9]. Bought it from a seller that isn’t on Starlink’s list? Check that first: Starlink sells on starlink.com and through the retailers on its US list (Amazon, Best Buy, Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Walmart and Leading Edge Retailer); hardware from sellers that aren’t on its list can’t be activated[10].
Buying it as a gift?
The $100 survives only if the person who’ll use Starlink orders it on starlink.com, through the link, in their own name. Starlink’s rule: the account must be in your own name (household members may help)[11]. A kit can’t simply be passed on later either: a rental service line can't be transferred to another person or place[4], and a kit bought online can't be transferred until 120 days after purchase or 90 days after activation, whichever comes first[3].
This season
SpaceX’s CFO said on its Oct 20, 2026 earnings call that it prioritized delivering kits to retail channels ahead of the holiday season (as reported by PCMag) press report[12]. More kits on store shelves doesn’t change the rule: a store kit can’t earn the $100. On starlink.com, Starlink’s US order list prices its V5 dish as a rental at $0[13] at checkout, and as with any rental, whether it earns the $100 isn’t confirmed (the rental row above).
Saw a store sale? Compare the totals
Type the store’s total into the comparison below: it puts it beside starlink.com’s kit and shipping less the $100 that comes off your monthly bills later.
A store’s total, or starlink.com and the $100 later
Example price starlink.com: the kit at Starlink’s US list price (read Nov 3, 2026) and shipping as seen at $20 at one address on Oct 30, 2026. The store total is yours to type.
The store total must be at least $100 lower than starlink.com’s Mini kit and shipping ($169.00 here): $69.00 or less before tax to come out even or ahead.
Store kit: no $100 Amounts are only issued for sign-ups on starlink.com. Kits from resellers, retailers, or account transfers are not eligible.
The $100 after two paid cycles Starlink’s terms: the new customer stays continuously subscribed and in good standing for two full monthly billing cycles
, and The minimum duration is based on the number of monthly service invoices paid by the Referred Subscriber.
Pays service, not the kit You pay the kit and shipping at checkout either way; the credit comes off monthly service later: Credits are only applied to monthly subscription charges.
Rented kits If your plan is Residential, the kit on starlink.com may be a rental, and it’s unconfirmed whether renting the kit still earns the reward: the terms require that the new customer “must purchase a Starlink Kit and subscription directly from www.starlink.com”, and Starlink has never said if a rental qualifies.
