In brief

At $49.50 a month (Residential 100 Mbps, Starlink’s latest list), the $100 covers two full bills and $1 of a third. Your address may show a different price: type the monthly price your order page shows.

Kit and one-time costs

$0, $99 or $199 one-time, depending on your address and plan ($99 is a professional-installation add-on; $199 is a rental kit with professional installation)[5]. Your order summary shows which applies.

Only in some high-demand areas: up to about $1,500[15], per Starlink’s invoice glossary. It’s one-time, not a monthly price.

Monthly kit fee

Starlink’s order page says a monthly rental fee, if any, appears on the checkout screen and is charged on activation day or 30 days after delivery, if that’s sooner[16]. On Oct 30, 2026, at one public test address, the order page priced the rented kit at $0 a month.

How do you take the reward?
More options: a lower first-months price, which bill, sales tax
A lower price for the first months?

In some areas Starlink shows new customers a lower price for a fixed period, such as 6 or 12 months. Leave these empty if your order page doesn’t.

First bill the credit comes off

Starlink’s two texts point to different bills, and until the first reports (around Dec 6, 2026) we can’t say which.

Does the credit also pay the kit or installment line?

Credits can be spent only on monthly service charges[3], and Starlink doesn’t say whether a monthly kit line counts.

A plain number, such as your state and local rate. It’s added to every charge before the credit: Starlink doesn’t say how tax and a credit meet, so that’s the cautious reading.

Prices can change: Starlink gives at least one month's notice before materially adverse changes[18]. For Residential, Starlink’s email, as reported, says prices will be reviewed about every quarter and can go down as well as up press report[19]. The $100 doesn’t depend on your price. 1. No $100 line on order day. The first month is paid in full and the kit activated as usual; the checkout total has no referral deduction.
  2. The $100 can’t pay these: Starlink says Credits are only applied to monthly subscription charges.
  3. Starlink counts the two cycles by monthly service invoices actually paid: an unpaid one doesn’t count (our reading).
  4. Which bill: Starlink’s terms say the reward is applied on the second monthly subscription invoice (bill 2); its help center says after they have subscribed for two months, as soon as 60 days after they activate (bill 3, or bill 4 when bill 3 is already pending). No order under the current terms reaches day 60 before Dec 6, 2026, so neither reading has been seen in practice yet.
  5. A credit comes off what you owe on a statement, but never more than that statement's total. The rest stays on your account and comes off the next bill (our reading).

Worked examples

Three prices for Residential 100 Mbps and two ways to pay for a Mini, worked out the way the calculator does: credit from bill 3, before kit costs, shipping and tax. Starlink’s own data has shown Residential 100 Mbps at $44 to $55/mo (levels seen in Starlink’s own price data, Oct 29–Nov 3, 2026)[5], and your address may show a different price. Every level, with what the $100 does at each, is on Starlink prices by address.

The $100 is the same at every level. At a lower level it covers more bills, so it’s a bigger share of your first year; at a higher one it covers fewer.

A Mini on Roam 100GB: outright or in installments

Roam 100GB has one national price ($55 a month, Starlink’s US list, Nov 3, 2026), so its numbers don’t depend on your address. The Mini costs $149 on Starlink’s US list, or nothing at checkout and $12.41/mo[14] for 12 months. Starlink says a new Mini kit bought on starlink.com in the US comes with an Activation Benefit at checkout, which Starlink can charge back if the kit isn’t activated within 7 days of delivery[7].

The $100 pays the service line only here (our reading), so each installment stays to pay.

Over a year the two come out almost the same; installments move the kit cost from checkout onto your monthly bills. If you’ve seen the Mini priced “after the referral”, that figure takes the $100 off the kit; the $100 comes off monthly service instead.

What moves your number

  1. Your address’s price level

US Residential prices vary by region[6]. A lower level leaves you paying less every month, and the $100 covers more of those bills; a higher one, the reverse. Type the price your order page shows. Why your price depends on your address.

  2. Rent, buy, or pay a Mini in installments

On Starlink’s US list, Residential kits are rentals: the kit itself comes to $0[5] at checkout, plus an activation charge of $0, $99 or $199 one-time, depending on your address and plan ($99 is a professional-installation add-on; $199 is a rental kit with professional installation)[5]. Roam uses a kit you buy: a Mini, outright or in installments, or a Standard kit for $349. One question stays open: it’s unconfirmed whether renting the kit still earns the reward: the terms require that the new customer “must purchase a Starlink Kit and subscription directly from www.starlink.com”, and Starlink has never said if a rental qualifies unverified[2].

  3. A half-price area discount

Three US areas get half-price service, applied by address: Cameron County, Texas area: 50% off Residential service, applied automatically by service address; no upfront hardware cost for new customers[8]; Vermilion Parish, Louisiana area: half-price Residential service, applied automatically[9]; and eligible parts of the Memphis area: half-price service, applied automatically[10]. If yours is one, your order page shows the lower price, and that’s the price to type. Starlink doesn’t say whether the $100 referral credit combines with an area discount, area promotional pricing, the Mini Activation Benefit or the Residential Max Mini offer unverified[2].

  4. A monthly kit fee, if your order summary shows one

Starlink’s order page says a monthly rental fee, if any, appears on the checkout screen and is charged on activation day or 30 days after delivery, if that’s sooner[16]. On Oct 30, 2026, the order page for one public test address showed the rented kit at $0/mo[17]. The fee you may read about elsewhere is older news: a monthly fee of $10/mo press report[11] reported on Jun 16, 2026, then SatelliteInternet.com reported on Jul 20, 2026 that the monthly rental fee had been removed from new Residential orders press report[12]. Starlink doesn’t say whether the $100 credit can pay a monthly kit rental fee, where one is charged, as well as the service charge unverified[3], so the calculator lets the $100 pay the service line only.

After year one, the $100 is behind you: it’s a one-time reward, paid once per eligible referral[2]. A kit you bought isn’t charged again, while a monthly kit fee keeps coming: Starlink’s rent article says a monthly rental fee is charged every month on top of the service fee[13].

What the calculator assumes

  • What the $100 pays: credits can be spent only on monthly service charges[3], and a credit comes off what you owe on a statement, but never more than that statement's total[3].
  • Leftover credit: the part of the $100 that’s bigger than one bill appears to stay on your account as an “available balance” and come off the next bills (our reading: Starlink shows an available balance for each credit and never deducts more than a statement’s total, but doesn’t spell out the carry-over for referral credit)[4].
  • Which bill: bill 3 unless you pick another. Starlink’s terms say the $100 is credited to your second monthly subscription invoice[2]; its help center says it comes once you’ve had service for two months[1]. Until about Dec 6, 2026, nobody ordering under these terms can have reached day 60, so both readings stay open.
  • Not included unless you add them: shipping, a demand surcharge, a monthly kit fee and sales tax. Your order summary shows each one that applies to you.

Comparing a store sale? A store kit doesn’t earn the $100: which places to buy count.

Still unsure? Questions, answered

What price do I type?
The monthly price on your own order summary: the amount under “Recurring Monthly Payment”. Starlink’s instruction for seeing your price is to enter your address on starlink.com and click “Order Now”[21]. That price is the one that counts; the chips are the levels Starlink’s own data has shown.
Why don’t you ask for my address?
Because this page never needs it. The calculator runs in your browser, and nothing you pick or type is saved or sent. Starlink is the one that needs your address to price your plan (starlink.com shows no Residential price until you enter an address[20]), so you read the price there and type it here.
Is the lowest price a promotion?
Starlink doesn’t say, so we can’t give you a plain yes or no. What its US price list shows: Starlink’s US price list shows no promotion end date, duration or adjustment for the address-based Residential prices, but tags the products “reduced cost” without saying what that means, and the list changed twice between Oct 25 and Nov 2, 2026 (our reading of the list fields)[5]. Prices can change later too: Starlink gives at least one month's notice before materially adverse changes[18]. If your order page offers a lower price for a fixed number of months, that’s promotional pricing: in some areas a new customer is offered a lower service price for a set period, such as 6 or 12 months, visible only on that address’s order page at starlink.com[22]. Enter it under “More options”.
Does it include the demand surcharge?
Only if you type it in: busy areas can carry a one-time demand surcharge at purchase or activation, set by the address and plan[23]. Starlink’s invoice glossary puts it at up to about $1,500[15], and your order summary shows whether your address has one. It’s a one-time charge, not a monthly price level, and the $100 can’t pay it: credits can be spent only on monthly service charges[3].
Can I pay for a Mini in installments?
Yes, on Roam: nothing at checkout, then $12.41/mo[14] for 12 months. Pick “Mini in monthly installments” under “Kit for Roam”. Starlink says credits can be spent only on monthly service charges[3] and doesn’t say whether an installment line counts, so the calculator leaves it to pay (switch that under “More options”). The installment plan has its own rules: Mini installments need 12 months of unbroken service; on Residential, cancelling, transferring, switching plans or pausing with Standby makes the balance due at once[24]; on Roam, Mini installments allow switching Roam plans or Standby[24].
Is there a monthly rental fee?
Maybe, and your order summary is where you’ll see it: Starlink’s order page says a monthly rental fee, if any, appears on the checkout screen and is charged on activation day or 30 days after delivery, if that’s sooner[16]. On Oct 30, 2026, the order page for one public test address showed the rented kit at $0/mo[17]. The calculator starts with no fee; if your order summary shows one, pick “My order page shows a monthly kit fee” and type it. Starlink doesn’t say whether the $100 credit can pay a monthly kit rental fee, where one is charged, as well as the service charge unverified[3]. One more open question: it’s unconfirmed whether renting the kit still earns the reward: the terms require that the new customer “must purchase a Starlink Kit and subscription directly from www.starlink.com”, and Starlink has never said if a rental qualifies unverified[2].
Does it include sales tax?
Only if you add your rate under “More options”: Starlink may add taxes and legally required fees on top of service, kit and accessory charges[18]. Starlink doesn’t say whether tax is worked out before or after a credit, so the calculator taxes every charge in full, the cautious reading; your real bills may come out a little lower.
Which bill does the $100 come off?
Starlink’s terms say it is credited to your second monthly subscription invoice[2] (bill 2). Its help center says it comes once you’ve had service for two months[1], 60 days after activation at the earliest, subject to your account settings and an identity check[1] (bill 3, or bill 4 if bill 3 is already pending: a credit is applied to the next bill your account generates, or to the one after if a bill is already pending when it lands[4]). Which reading Starlink follows can’t show before Dec 6, 2026, when the first orders under the current terms reach day 60. The calculator starts on bill 3; switch to bill 2 or 4 under “More options”.
Cash or credit: does it change the total?
Not over the first year: it’s the same $100 either way. Cash goes to your bank instead of your bills, and only once Stripe’s setup is finished (if you don't finish the Stripe setup, the reward comes as service credit[1]). Credit or cash, side by side.
