The rules
Starlink’s referral rules as of Nov 3, 2026: Terms and help center side by side
Each rule as Starlink’s US Referral Program Terms put it, beside what its help center says, then what it means for you. Quoted exactly and dated, and in a file you can download.
As of , Starlink’s US Referral Program Terms (published Oct 7, 2026[1]) give a new customer $100[2] when they have never had Starlink, buy the kit and plan on starlink.com through an existing customer’s referral link for a US service address, and stay subscribed for two full billing cycles on a high-speed plan. The terms say it’s credited to your second monthly subscription invoice[3]; the help center says it comes once you’ve had service for two months[2], 60 days after activation at the earliest, subject to your account settings and an identity check[2].
The six conditions behind the $100, in Starlink’s words
- A person, not a company
Referred Subscribers must be natural persons.
- A US service address
The Referred Subscriber activates a Starlink subscription with a service address in the same country as the Referrer’s service address.
With a US customer’s link, that’s the US. - Never had Starlink
The Referred Subscriber is not, and has never been, a Starlink subscriber.
- Bought on starlink.com
The Referred Subscriber must purchase a Starlink Kit and subscription directly from www.starlink.com.
- Through the referral link
The Referred Subscriber places an order for a Starlink Kit using the Unique Referral Link provided by the Referrer.
- Two paid high-speed cycles Stay subscribed for
two full monthly billing cycles
, counted bythe number of monthly service invoices paid
, ona high-speed service plan (excludes Standby Mode)
.
Each rule, with the terms and the help center side by side: the rules.
Every rule, quoted
Starlink states its rules in two places: the Referral Program Terms, which bind, and its help article “Does Starlink have a referral program?”, which explains. Where they differ, we say so in the last column.
| Rule | Referral Program Terms | Help center | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| You’ve never had Starlink |
|
| Any past Starlink subscription counts against you, at any address and for any length of time. A new email address or a new home doesn’t reset it. |
| You sign up as a person, in your own name |
|
| A company or LLC can’t be the new customer, and Business, Enterprise and Priority accounts don’t earn referral rewards. Order in your own name. |
| Your service address is in the referrer’s country |
|
| The Terms require a service address in the same country as the referrer’s, so a US referral link is for a US service address. The help center’s line that amounts may vary outside your country doesn’t lift that rule. Whether a US link counts for Puerto Rico, Guam or another US territory isn’t confirmed. |
| You buy the kit and the plan on starlink.com |
|
| Order on starlink.com itself. Kits from stores, resellers, marketplaces or a private transfer don’t count. Whether a rented kit counts isn’t confirmed: the Terms say “purchase a Starlink Kit”, and Starlink has never said if a rental qualifies. |
| You order through the referrer’s link |
|
| The link is the only way in. We found no box in Starlink’s order flow to type a referral code: the referral rides in the link. |
| A referral can’t be added after you order | Not in the terms |
| Ordered without the link, through someone else’s link or from a store? Starlink says the referral can’t be added later. Check that the order page shows the referral before you pay. |
| You pick a plan that counts |
|
| Residential and Roam plans count; Business plans don’t. The Terms add that Starlink shows the eligible plans when you sign up. |
| You stay subscribed for two full billing cycles and pay the bills |
|
| Two full monthly billing cycles in a row, in good standing. Starlink counts them by the monthly service invoices you’ve paid, so an unpaid bill doesn’t count toward the two. |
| Standby Mode doesn’t count toward the two cycles |
| Not in the help article | The two cycles have to be on a high-speed plan, without a break. Time in Standby Mode doesn’t count. |
| You mean to keep Starlink |
| Not in the help article | Starlink compares how long referred customers stay with the US average. The reward isn’t meant for a short trial. |
| The Terms’ condition on hardship and vulnerability |
| Not in the help article | One of the conditions the Terms set for a referral to count; Starlink’s referral help article doesn’t mention it. As with every condition, Starlink alone decides whether a referral qualifies. |
| How much you get |
|
| The same amount as the person whose link you used. The help center gives the US example; the amount that counts is the one shown in your Starlink account. |
| When the reward arrives |
|
| The Terms say it’s applied on your second monthly invoice; the help center says after two months, as soon as 60 days after activation. Neither has been seen in practice until the first orders under the current terms reach day 60. |
| Service credit by default, cash where your account offers it |
|
| The reward comes as service credit, deducted from your next invoice. Where your account offers cash, you can switch to it under Referrals; the choice locks when the reward pays out. |
| How fast cash is paid |
| Not in the help article | Our reading: this line is written for referrers, and sets how long Starlink can take to pay their cash once a referral matures. The Terms give no separate cash timeline for the new customer. |
| One reward per referral |
| Not in the help article | You get the reward once. Our reading, where the Terms are silent: ordering more than one kit on your account doesn’t multiply it. |
| Taxes on the reward |
| Not in the help article | Starlink issues the reward before tax, says it isn’t responsible for any tax on it, and calls rewards promotional incentives, not wages. It doesn’t say how the IRS treats them; a tax professional can tell you for your case. |
| Starlink decides, and can hold or take back a reward |
| Not in the help article | Even when everything looks right, Starlink can hold a reward while it checks, and take one back for fraud, abuse or a terms violation. |
| The program can change |
| Not in the help article | Starlink can change the program with notice. Referrals already pending when it gives notice keep the old terms during the notice period. |

What changed on Oct 7, 2026
Before the terms were republished on Oct 7, 2026[1], the new customer’s reward was a free month of service. The version they replaced said:
“Upon activation, the Referred Subscriber will receive one free month of service on the eligible service plan of their selection, applied to their second monthly subscription invoice.”
Since then it’s an amount equal to what the referring customer receives[2]: $100[2] in the US. Not every Starlink page caught up: one current Starlink help article (the Memphis Area Discount page) still describes the referral as a free month, although the US terms have given $100 since Oct 7, 2026[5].
Why some answers still say “30 days”
Two of Starlink’s older help articles are gone, but copies still circulate with timings that no longer apply. Starlink has removed its older referral help articles (“How do I use a referral link?” and “Additional FAQs - Billing”); both returned “not found” on Nov 2, 2026, and the live article is “Does Starlink have a referral program?”[2]. A site or an AI answer that says the credit comes 30 days after activation, or that billing starts at activation or 30 days after the kit ships, with no 7-day date, is most likely repeating one of them (our reading).
“How do I use a referral link?”
Removed What it said, in the Internet Archive’s copy:
“The credit will be applied 30-days after you activate your account.”
What Starlink says now: its terms say the $100 is credited to your second monthly subscription invoice[3]; its help center says once you’ve had service for two months[2], 60 days after activation at the earliest, subject to your account settings and an identity check[2]. Nobody ordering under the current terms reaches day 60 before Dec 6, 2026, so neither reading is confirmed yet. The live article adds that an order placed without the link can’t have a referral attached afterwards[2].
“Additional FAQs - Billing”
Removed What it said, in the Internet Archive’s copy:
“Your first bill will occur either on activation or 30 days after your Starlink ships, whichever comes first.”
What Starlink says now: per the order summary, month one is billed on activation day, or a week after delivery if that comes first[8]. Its Terms of Service keep the 30 days only as a fallback: your first charge comes on the earliest of: the day you activate, 7 days after delivery, or 30 days after shipping if there's no delivery date (the 'Payment Due Date')[9]. Since about Nov 3, 2026, its installer article has listed 30 days after shipping as a third date, without that condition: billing starts on whichever comes first: the day you power on and connect the kit, a week after delivery, or 30 days after it ships, whatever the installation date[10].
What the terms don’t say
- Whether a US referral link counts for Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa or the Northern Mariana Islands unverified[3].
- Whether a referral opened in a browser survives when the order is completed in the Starlink app unverified[2].
- It’s unconfirmed whether renting the kit still earns the reward: the terms require that the new customer “must purchase a Starlink Kit and subscription directly from www.starlink.com”, and Starlink has never said if a rental qualifies unverified[3].
- Whether the $100 referral credit combines with an area discount, area promotional pricing, the Mini Activation Benefit or the Residential Max Mini offer unverified[3].
- Whether the $100 credit can pay a monthly kit rental fee, where one is charged, as well as the service charge unverified[11].
- Whether unused referral credit expires (Starlink doesn't say) unverified[11].
- Whether orders placed just before Oct 7, 2026 get the $100 or the old free month unverified[3].
