The short answer
- What was reported about the rental fee?
- RV Mobile Internet reported on Jun 16, 2026 that new Residential customers rent their dish for $10 a month. SatelliteInternet.com reported on Jul 20, 2026 that the fee
has been removed from new purchases of residential Starlink.
Starlink’s rent article still says a monthly rental fee is charged on top of the service fee, without an amount, and its order page says any rental fee isshown on checkout screen

. - When was it reported, and when did we check?
- Reported Jun 16 and Jul 20, 2026. Starlink’s rent article was last modified Aug 7, 2026 and edited again without a new date after Oct 21; we read it on Nov 2, 2026. Order page checked Oct 30, 2026.
- Who rents the dish?
- New Residential customers, who rent the dish. Roam customers buy their kit (Mini or Standard) instead.
- What should you read on the order summary?
- Read the rental line on your order summary before you pay; that’s the amount that counts. If it isn’t $0, don’t count on the referral credit to pay it: Starlink says credits pay monthly subscription charges and doesn’t say whether that includes a rental fee.
- What about the credit and activation?
- The referral credit amount and rules. Rental activation still costs $0, $99 or $199, set by your address and plan.

After a little more than a month of adding the fee, it's now been removed from new purchases of residential Starlink.
Does the credit pay a rental fee?
Where the rental fee is $0, the question of whether the credit pays it disappears. Where a fee shows, our calculator lets you type it in and takes the cautious view that the credit pays the service charge only.
Whether a rental order earns the $100 at all isn’t confirmed either: Starlink’s referral terms say the new customer must purchase a Starlink Kit and subscription directly from www.starlink.com
, and Starlink has never said if a rental qualifies.
Other rental rules worth knowing
Rental-kit customers can’t pause service, and the kit must go back within 30 days of cancelling. Starlink’s rent article also has a 7-day back-out rule after delivery, while its Terms of Service give a refund on a rented kit returned in the 30 days that follow the Payment Due Date, including the activation price, the first month’s fee and any demand surcharge. One help article says rentals need a 12-month commitment; the rent article and the Terms don’t mention one.
Update : Updated Nov 2, 2026 with the Jul 20 report that the fee was removed, Starlink’s $0 order-page line at our test address, and the Terms of Service’s 30-day refund for rented kits.

Corrections
- : Earlier versions gave the rental fee as $10 a month without the Jul 20, 2026 report that it was removed, and described only the 7-day back-out for rentals; Starlink’s Terms of Service also refund a rented kit returned within 30 days.
