Here’s what it doesn’t tell you.

What does a working link show? With a working referral link, starlink.com shows a green banner on the landing page and the same line under “Referral Code Applied” on the order page: “By signing up with this code, you and your friend will get $100 each—cash or service credit.” In our Oct 9, 2026 screenshot the panel read “you’ll get $100—cash or Starlink service credit”. A code that isn’t valid shows an amber “Referral Code Not Applied” panel instead. On a phone the panel sits just above the Checkout button; on a computer, just below it.

When did we see it? Seen Oct 30, 2026 on starlink.com with a public test address and no order placed. The line comes from Starlink’s server, so it can change without notice.

Who sees the panel? New customers ordering through a referral link on starlink.com.

What should you check before you pay? Before you pay, look for the green panel next to Checkout. Then remember what it doesn’t say: the $100 comes after two full billing cycles, not at checkout, and the order summary has no $100 line.

What doesn’t the panel change? Nothing comes off at checkout; the reward comes as account credit by default (or cash where offered) after two full billing cycles, and Starlink still decides whether an order qualifies.

Source: Starlink, 2026-04-09 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://starlink.com/support/article/eee7e99e-a736-f16e-9506-c446dd70fb16

Starlink now prices Residential plans by address: what that means for the $100 credit

Starlink now shows Residential prices only for an address, with several levels per plan in its own price data since Oct 29, 2026. The $100 is unchanged.

What did Starlink change about Residential prices? starlink.com no longer shows one national Residential price. Its home page says “Enter your address to see plans and pricing,” and the price list behind its order page now carries products named by demand level. In Starlink’s own data we’ve seen Residential 100 Mbps at $44, $49.50 and $55 a month, Residential 200 Mbps at $68, $76.50 and $85, and Residential Max at $104, $117, $130, $143 and $156. Press reports of Starlink’s emails to customers call the prices “dynamic”: set by local capacity and demand, about 20% either side of the standard price, and reviewed about every quarter.

When did the price list change? The no-address price list changed between Oct 25, 2026 (04:44 UTC) and Oct 29, 2026 (12:18 UTC), per our saved copy and the Wayback Machine. Press reported the customer emails on Oct 29 and 30. On Nov 2 the no-address list showed one product per plan again ($49.50, $76.50 and $143), while an address in Austin, Texas still got $55, $85 and $130 on Oct 30.

Whose price now depends on the address? New US Residential customers, whose price now depends on the service address. Press reports say existing customers in some areas, first in Missouri and Kansas, were told their price would rise or fall from a later billing cycle. Roam plans and kit prices didn’t change.

What should you check before ordering? Before you order, enter your address on starlink.com: the price on that page is the one that counts. Type it into our credit calculator to see how many bills the $100 covers. If your price changes after you order, the reward doesn’t; it stays $100 and simply covers more or fewer bills.

What hasn’t moved? The referral reward: $100 for a new US customer after two full billing cycles, as account credit by default or cash where offered, under the Oct 7, 2026 terms. Roam prices ($55, $80 and $175 a month) and kit prices ($149 Mini, $349 Standard) are unchanged.

Source: Starlink, 2026-11-02 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://www.starlink.com/api/webagg/v1/public/marketing/availability?invitationTypeCode=1&isoCountryCode=US; Internet Archive, 2026-10-29 (retrieved 2026-10-29): https://web.archive.org/web/20261029121834/https://starlink.com/api/webagg/v1/public/marketing/availability?invitationTypeCode=1&isoCountryCode=US; Starlink, 2026-04-09 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://starlink.com/support/article/e9b3304e-28ce-2fa3-6260-74cf9cb99300; Starlink, 2026-04-09 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://starlink.com/support/article/993a20a3-97c1-ac1a-433b-6051d0043908; SatelliteInternet.com, 2026-10-29 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://www.satelliteinternet.com/resources/starlink-introduces-dynamic-pricing/; RV Mobile Internet, 2026-10-30 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://www.rvmobileinternet.com/starlink-tests-dynamic-residential-pricing-announces-50-global-priority-data-price-hike-and-reduces-local-priority-international-use/; Drive Tesla, 2026-10-30 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://driveteslacanada.ca/?p=126902

Starlink’s referral help article now explains cash payouts through Stripe

Starlink’s referral help article now says cash rewards go through Stripe, set up in a web browser; skip Stripe and the reward comes as credit.

What does the help article add about cash? Starlink’s help article “Does Starlink have a referral program?” now spells out how cash rewards work: cash is paid through Stripe; you set it up under Referrals > Reward Method on starlink.com in a web browser (not the app); you sign in to or create a Stripe account, verify your identity and link a bank account; “Finish onboarding” means setup isn’t complete; and if you’d rather not use Stripe, your reward is issued as service credit. The version read for our fact check on Oct 21, 2026 didn’t name a payment processor.

When did the text change? The article’s text differs from the copy read on Oct 21, 2026 (its listed modified date still says Apr 9, 2026, so the date can’t be relied on). We read the new text on Oct 25, 2026.

Who does it matter to? New US customers who want their referral reward as cash rather than account credit, and existing customers choosing how to take their own referral rewards.

How do you choose cash in time? If you want cash, set it up before the reward pays out: sign in on starlink.com in a browser, open Referrals > Reward Method, choose Cash and finish Stripe’s onboarding. If you do nothing, the reward arrives as account credit.

What is unchanged about the reward? The amount ($100 in the US), the two-months-subscribed timing, credit as the default, cash only where your account offers it, and the choice locking when the reward is paid out.

Source: Starlink, 2026-10-25 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://starlink.com/support/article/eee7e99e-a736-f16e-9506-c446dd70fb16

Starlink’s invoice glossary names each charge and puts the demand surcharge at up to about $1,500

Starlink’s Invoice Description Glossary, edited Oct 22, 2026, names the invoices a new customer sees and gives the demand surcharge as up to about $1,500.

What’s new in the invoice glossary? The glossary now lists 18 invoice types; an archived copy from Dec 11, 2025 had 9. It defines the monthly “Account Subscription” invoice, the “Account Unified Sign-Up Order” a new starlink.com customer pays, the prorated “Partial Service Invoice” after an upgrade, and the “Demand Surcharge Order”: “A one-time congestion charge per residential service line, up to about $1,500, for standard service in a congested cell.” A kit bought in a store and activated later is billed as an “Account Subscription Activation”, which “is not a starlink.com kit purchase”.

When was it updated? Modified Oct 22, 2026; we read it on Oct 29 and Nov 2, 2026. It still contains editing notes such as “Confirm the line wording before publishing,” so the wording may change.

Who should read it? New customers reading their first invoices, and anyone ordering at an address with a demand surcharge.

Which invoice should carry the credit? Expect the $100 on an “Account Subscription” invoice: Starlink says credits pay monthly subscription charges, not one-time orders, surcharges or prorated plan-change charges. Check the order summary for a surcharge before you pay; a return within 30 days refunds an eligible surcharge.

How does the credit still apply? How the credit applies: to the next monthly bill, or the one after if a bill is already pending, and never more than a statement’s total.

Source: Starlink, 2026-10-22 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://starlink.com/support/article/28dcd007-a077-99d1-353b-8f1cc5fde1cd; Internet Archive, 2025-12-11 (retrieved 2026-10-29): https://web.archive.org/web/20251211095217/https://starlink.com/support/article/28dcd007-a077-99d1-353b-8f1cc5fde1cd; Starlink, 2026-04-09 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://starlink.com/support/article/63280071-bee3-31b6-28ab-1588d7354bee; RV Mobile Internet, 2026-10-30 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://www.rvmobileinternet.com/starlink-tests-dynamic-residential-pricing-announces-50-global-priority-data-price-hike-and-reduces-local-priority-international-use/

Starlink orders can be changed or cancelled only while “Pending”, which can end within 1 to 3 hours

Starlink’s order help, edited Oct 20, 2026: you can update or cancel an order only during its Pending status, which can end 1 to 3 hours after you order.

What does the order help say now? Starlink’s “Order Overview” article now says: “You can update or cancel your order only while the status shows Pending. Once the status changes to Preparing Shipment, the order can no longer be updated or cancelled. This change can happen within 1–3 hours after you place the order.” An archived copy from Oct 8, 2025 described a fixed 3-hour window instead.

When was the article edited? The article’s modified date is Oct 20, 2026. We read it on Oct 29 and Nov 2, 2026.

Who needs to act fast? Anyone who just ordered, especially if the order page showed “Referral Code Not Applied” or no referral panel at all.

What should you check right after ordering? Check your order status in your Starlink account straight away. Starlink says a referral can’t be added to an order later. It doesn’t say whether cancelling a Pending order changes who counts as a new customer, so ask Starlink support before you change anything.

What still holds for the referral? A referral attaches only when you order through the link on starlink.com; it can’t be added afterwards. The 30-day return still applies once the kit has shipped.

Source: Starlink, 2026-10-20 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://starlink.com/support/article/162f3038-421a-3cdc-b36e-7aeaad6af2ad; Internet Archive, 2025-10-08 (retrieved 2026-10-29): https://web.archive.org/web/20251008230732/https://www.starlink.com/support/article/162f3038-421a-3cdc-b36e-7aeaad6af2ad; Starlink, 2026-04-09 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://starlink.com/support/article/eee7e99e-a736-f16e-9506-c446dd70fb16

Starlink names the only WhatsApp number it uses for payment links, and says support is never paid

Starlink’s phishing article (edited Oct 20, 2026) lists the only ways it sends payment links; an Aug 26 article says support never costs “$5 or otherwise”.

What did Starlink add about payment links? Starlink’s phishing article now says a past-due payment link comes only by WhatsApp from +1 555 821 7702, by email to the address on your account, or from Starlink Support, and that “Starlink will never unsolicitedly request payment through a third-party vendor or website.” A separate article created Aug 26, 2026 says callers are never asked “to pay any amount—$5 or otherwise—to get help, open a ticket, or be transferred to a human representative.”

When did the articles change? Phishing article modified Oct 20, 2026; archived copies from Jun 10 and Dec 15, 2025 don’t have the payment-link list. Support article created Aug 26, 2026. We read both on Oct 29 and Nov 2, 2026.

Who should watch for these messages? Everyone waiting for the referral credit, and anyone who gets a message about a Starlink payment, credit or reward.

What should you do with a message about your reward? The $100 never involves paying anything or answering a message: it’s added in your Starlink account, and cash goes through a Stripe setup you start yourself on starlink.com. Ignore “claim your credit” messages. Reach support only through your Starlink account or the contact details on Starlink’s own help center.

How is the reward still paid? How the reward is paid: account credit by default, or cash through Stripe where your account offers it.

Source: Starlink, 2026-10-20 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://starlink.com/support/article/7eedb59e-9c8d-0f34-b40d-37921d0fe98a; Starlink, 2026-08-26 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://starlink.com/support/article/c2f8d0e1-5641-1854-0260-c8e4b9ce1980; Starlink, 2026-04-10 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://starlink.com/support/article/bdb63773-e93b-74e8-8e12-2da2fb6d534e; Internet Archive, 2025-06-10 (retrieved 2026-10-29): https://web.archive.org/web/20250610034419/https://www.starlink.com/api/support/v2/topics/7eedb59e-9c8d-0f34-b40d-37921d0fe98a

Reported, not confirmed: Starlink Residential kits are rentals: the $10 monthly fee reported in June was reported removed in July

Starlink rents the dish on new Residential orders. A $10 fee reported in June was reported removed Jul 20; the order page showed $0 at our test address.

What was reported about the rental fee? RV Mobile Internet reported on Jun 16, 2026 that new Residential customers rent their dish for $10 a month. SatelliteInternet.com reported on Jul 20, 2026 that the fee “has been removed from new purchases of residential Starlink.” Starlink’s rent article still says a monthly rental fee is charged on top of the service fee, without an amount, and its order page says any rental fee is “shown on checkout screen”. On Oct 30, 2026 the order summary for our test address listed “Hardware Rental $0/mo”.

When was it reported, and when did we check? Reported Jun 16 and Jul 20, 2026. Starlink’s rent article was last modified Aug 7, 2026 and edited again without a new date after Oct 21; we read it on Nov 2, 2026. Order page checked Oct 30, 2026.

Who rents the dish? New Residential customers, who rent the dish. Roam customers buy their kit (Mini or Standard) instead.

What should you read on the order summary? Read the rental line on your order summary before you pay; that’s the amount that counts. If it isn’t $0, don’t count on the referral credit to pay it: Starlink says credits pay monthly subscription charges and doesn’t say whether that includes a rental fee.

What about the credit and activation? The referral credit amount and rules. Rental activation still costs $0, $99 or $199, set by your address and plan.

Source: RV Mobile Internet, 2026-06-16 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://www.rvmobileinternet.com/starlink-implements-10-rental-fee-for-residential-plans-new-customers-no-longer-own-their-dish/; Starlink, 2026-08-07 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://starlink.com/support/article/ea2cca85-c95d-595b-06e6-4882ebe915df; SatelliteInternet.com, 2026-07-20 (retrieved 2026-11-02): https://www.satelliteinternet.com/resources/starlink-rental/
